Description

Barruecopardo is a village and municipality in the province of Salamanca, western Spain, part of the autonomous community of Castile-Leon. It has a population of 504 people and lies 730 metres (2,400 ft) above sea level. The postal code is 37255. Barruecopardo mine is a tungsten mine in the vicinity.

Extracted Materials

With a 30 year  mining license the company’s flagship producing asset is the Barruecopardo mine located in the Spanish Province of Salamanca where the company extracts, upgrades, and cleans for sale to downstream end-users a high quality Tungsten mineral concentrate.

According to the National Statistical Institute, as of December 31, 2018, Barruecopardo had a total population of 442 inhabitants, of which 238 were men and 204 women. Compared to 2000, the census reflected 587 inhabitants, of whom 295 were men and 292 women. Therefore, the loss of population in the municipality for the period 2000-2018 is 145 inhabitants, which is a 25% reduction.

There are two bus lines, one operated by Arribes Bus SL and the other by Eloy Robledo SL, which connects it to the provincial capital.

Archaeological info

The project began operations in August 2018 with the first successful trial of waste rock through the primary crusher. The rest of the crushing and screening plant, including associated electrical circuitry, was completed by September 2018. Commissioning of the screens and cone crushers commenced in November 2018 while construction activities were fully completed by June 2019.

Sustainable tourism insights

The Barruecopardo Council with the help of the inhabitants of the village, has opened this small museum which offers a general view of the world of the mineralogy. The collection of minerals is exhibited in three exhibition-rooms and the outer patio.
